“Theresa Brown could have spent the rest of her life teaching English to college students.
Instead, at the age of 35, the Point Breeze resident decided she wanted to challenge herself with a job that was physically more demanding and, at times, mentally exhausting.
Brown became a nurse.
‘I realized that being a professor wasn’t where my passion was,’ says Brown, who will speak and sign copies of her book The Shift: One Nurse, Twelve Hours, Four Patients’ Lives (Algonquin Books, $24.95) on Sept. 20 at Classic Lines Book Store in Squirrel Hill, and on Sept. 22 at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland, as part of the Year of the Humanities Opening Event.”
