Biography
Matt Puchalski: Engineer, Gardener, and Author of “A Pandemic Gardening Journal”
Matt Puchalski is a unique blend of engineer, self-taught gardener, and writer, with a deeply rooted passion for education and storytelling. A robotics engineer by day, Matt has harnessed his analytical and innovative skills in the field of self-driving technology, notably contributing to the advancement of AVs with a patent during his tenure at Argo AI.
The journey into gardening began as a therapeutic endeavor during the COVID-19 pandemic, transforming a neglected backyard into a flourishing urban oasis. This transformation not only revitalized his space with native plants and wildlife but also inspired “A Pandemic Gardening Journal.” The book, nominated for a 2024 Council on Botanical & Horticultural Libraries Literature Award, narrates Matt’s journey through gardening as a beacon of hope and renewal in tumultuous times.
Matt’s approach to writing mirrors his engineering mindset, applying principles of structure and creativity to make learning engaging and accessible. His work reflects a belief in the power of entertainment as a vehicle for education, aiming to inspire others to explore the multifaceted benefits of gardening for personal well-being and environmental sustainability.
Beyond the written word, Matt is venturing into the visual arts, exploring acrylic painting and its therapeutic potential. He is also expanding his literary repertoire with a companion piece to his gardening journal and several fiction projects in development.

Support Littsburgh!
Littsburgh™ is the online destination for the writers, publishing professionals, organizers, institutions, and readers who make Pittsburgh one of the world’s most literary cities.
Founded by three publishing professionals in 2015, Littsburgh showcases Pittsburgh as a hub of literary talent and activity while serving as a resource to foster further collaboration and connection within Pittsburgh’s vibrant literary community.
Littsburgh is a passion project and has been since inception.
Because we’re self-powered, we’ve been able to continue promoting literary Pittsburgh without having to compromise our vision or our mission — and without having to close up shop because of lack of funding. Our goal is for Littsburgh to be here for the long haul… and we’re only getting bigger and better every year!
As our audience has grown, however, so have our operating costs: hosting is increasingly expensive, spreading the word about literary Pittsburgh to our readers via social media channels requires paid “boosts,” and we’re investing literally hundreds of volunteer hours into the site every year.
With a small donation, one time or (even better!) recurring, you can help ensure that Littsburgh continues to grow and thrive.
