Biography
Babs Carryer is an entrepreneur, teacher, mentor, writer and sailor.
As a serial technology entrepreneur, she has spent the bulk of her
life creating and advising startups. Currently, Babs is director of
education & outreach for the University of Pittsburgh’s Innovation
Institute where she develops and implements programs to encourage and
support innovation and entrepreneurship across campus to all students,
faculty, researchers and clinicians. For 15 years, Babs helped develop
the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)
where she taught entrepreneurship, was embedded entrepreneur, and
innovation advisor. For years, Babs has written about startups and
entrepreneurship on her NewVenturist blog. Now she has turned to
writing fiction with the publication of her first startup mystery
novel, HD66: search for a cure or a killer?. Babs co-founded the
Pittsburgh chapter of Women in Bio. Her focus on encouraging and
supporting women in entrepreneurship has led to her novel’s female
sleuth, Brie Prince, who she hopes to take into a series. Babs has a
Masters in Public Management from Heinz College at CMU and a BA from
Mills College in CA. Babs is President of the Pittsburgh chapter of
Sisters in Crime.
Support Littsburgh!
Littsburgh™ is the online destination for the writers, publishing professionals, organizers, institutions, and readers who make Pittsburgh one of the world’s most literary cities.
Founded by three publishing professionals in 2015, Littsburgh showcases Pittsburgh as a hub of literary talent and activity while serving as a resource to foster further collaboration and connection within Pittsburgh’s vibrant literary community.
Littsburgh is a passion project and has been since inception.
Because we’re self-powered, we’ve been able to continue promoting literary Pittsburgh without having to compromise our vision or our mission — and without having to close up shop because of lack of funding. Our goal is for Littsburgh to be here for the long haul… and we’re only getting bigger and better every year!
As our audience has grown, however, so have our operating costs: hosting is increasingly expensive, spreading the word about literary Pittsburgh to our readers via social media channels requires paid “boosts,” and we’re investing literally hundreds of volunteer hours into the site every year.
With a small donation, one time or (even better!) recurring, you can help ensure that Littsburgh continues to grow and thrive.
