“Just before last Christmas, the novelist Leslie Pietrzyk started her morning by reading electronic mail and saw a message with the subject of ‘Drue Heinz Literature Prize.’
‘I sort of thought, “Oh, rejection, a great way to start the day.” But it was a great way to start the day,’ said the Virginia resident. She rushed to tell her husband that her book, This Angel on My Chest, had won the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, which meant that it would be published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. The prize includes a check for $15,000. Ms. Pietrzyk will read from her prize-winning book at Phipps Conservatory on Thursday at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.”
