“‘I always try to make sure that anything exceptional or kind-hearted the speaker does is truly autobiographical,’ says Dave Newman of Trafford, who will read from his new poetry collection, The Poem Factory (White Gorilla Press), Oct. 10 at the East Book Exchange with Adam Matcho. ‘The negative things that speaker does, the mistakes, those are the fictional elements.’
Matcho — who is the assistant obituary manager for Trib Total Media and lives in Washington Township, Westmoreland County — agrees that most of the poems in his new collection Love Songs From Flood City (Low Ghost) are inspired by personal experiences. To write only about himself would be limiting, however, and he understands that confusion often ensues when he uses the word ‘I’.”
