    My Little Brown Girl

    My little brown girl.

    You.

Are my light that cracks and breaks through
This brick wall that I have created.

    As
the cement that holds my wall so firmly.

    Deteriorating while afraid.

    The Installation, that was formed
    Made a home.

    A house
    That is sturdy and warm.

    You
Look through the windows of my home.

    Filled with laughter
Smiles, even dents and dimples in your chin.

    I question
The time when I did not have a wall.

    How can I
    Demolish it?

    Can I make it
    Thin?

    I do not know.

Would there be such a thing
    As me then.

    Bitter
    While sweet.

    Come here my love
I do want to cuddle and rub feet.

    Watch movies, yakking, pop-corn snacking
    With you.

    Brown sugar
    Please.

    Me
“Should I put a little in our baked beans?”

As you yell “Mommy, you know my favorite is greens!”

    Collard
Wash them, so we know they are clean.

    My love
That is unseen, stored away, in a hidden place.

    Moved.

    Out of my
    Brick home.

    Into
    You.

    My little brown Girl.

    My world.
    As we sing.

    In the car.

    I will have nothing
    Without you.

    That is true.

    I realized
The girl who is on fire.

    Is, you.

    This wall
    That is five foot one.

    The
    Cement needs to be redone.

    Brittle walls
    Start to fall.

    I never felt stable.
    Able to feel loved.

    You
And only you showed me what it is like to have love.

    Letter
    To my, little, brown, girl.

    Who breaks
    Walls.

    Lost Treasure

    You are unaware
Of your value but value remains there.

    When x marks the spot
    Someone will find you.

    While it is up
    To you.

    To shine.

    No matter who
    Tries to define you.

    Under dirt
    Or debris.

    Your treasure
You must open your eyes to see.

    Lost treasure
    Is only lost.

    When hidden.
    Unable to be seen.

    Beauty Comes With Flaws

    Beauty
    Underneath it all.

    Covered by external
    Features that are described wrong.

    So, I try to wear
    Me raw.

    Face naked and
    All.

    Inches and extensions
    Fell out.

    Glued in
    Wrong.

    Look at me
    Raw.

    Beautiful
Since I covered all my flaws.

    Before you didn’t notice
    Me at all.

    Baggy shirts, rough hair
    I never really cared.

    Since
    It was me.

    Smiling underneath.

    Wearing flaws.

    I wish someone
    Would of told me.

    Beauty
    Comes with flaws.

    And left me there
    To face the world raw.

    Beauty from within
    Matters.

    Internal beauty wins
    External flaws.

    Until Fall

    In the wind
    Along the trees I sit.

    Hanging on to a branch
    Waving in the wind.

    Until fall comes around
    the only feeling I found.

    Was a silent
    Yet crackling sound.

    Dissolving.

    I must have
    Hit the ground.

    My colors
    Seem to make people smile.

    Changing from green
    Red, yellow, or brown.

    Between me and you I
Like when I make a crunchy sound.

    I imagine being a tree.

    So, branches can hold leafs
Close hardly any space to breathe.

That is me as a tree
A leaf, is all I could be.

I miss being in that tree
    Blowing rapidly.

    Leafstalk, branches
I would give all my chances.

    To dance
    One of them single dances.

    Sitting in that tree
Even if it was just me.

    Blowing.

    In the wind.

    Support Littsburgh!
Littsburgh™ is the online destination for the writers, publishing professionals, organizers, institutions, and readers who make Pittsburgh one of the world’s most literary cities.

Founded by three publishing professionals in 2015, Littsburgh showcases Pittsburgh as a hub of literary talent and activity while serving as a resource to foster further collaboration and connection within Pittsburgh’s vibrant literary community.

Littsburgh is a passion project and has been since inception.

Because we’re self-powered, we’ve been able to continue promoting literary Pittsburgh without having to compromise our vision or our mission — and without having to close up shop because of lack of funding. Our goal is for Littsburgh to be here for the long haul… and we’re only getting bigger and better every year!

As our audience has grown, however, so have our operating costs: hosting is increasingly expensive, spreading the word about literary Pittsburgh to our readers via social media channels requires paid “boosts,” and we’re investing literally hundreds of volunteer hours into the site every year.

With a small donation, one time or (even better!) recurring, you can help ensure that Littsburgh continues to grow and thrive.
